Former Air Force combat control specialist, Sam Schaefer, has triumphed over chronic pain that had plagued him for years. It all began when he suffered a foot injury during a training exercise, but despite the pain, he soldiered on until his military career came to an end two and a half years later. Seeking relief, Schaefer embarked on a nine-year-long journey, visiting numerous doctors and specialists, but alas, no solution was found. The relentless pain took its toll on his physical activities, relationships, and mental well-being, leaving him feeling isolated and depressed. However, fate intervened when he met a woman at his gym who would later become his wife. Her unconditional acceptance gave him the strength to persevere in his battle against chronic pain. Ultimately, Schaefer made the difficult decision to undergo amputation as a last resort. With the guidance of a doctor who diagnosed him with complex regional pain syndrome, they determined that a below-the-knee amputation was the best course of action.
